Hope you are doing well! Are you continuing your exercise therapy like you did in California? Good to have you back in warm Florida.

About the Film

This is a ski day dedicated to Dave Genchi. The Steamboat Powder-cats picked a blue bird day in March 2008 to ski in the back country. The day and this film is a tribute to Dave Genchi.

After a pre-dawn snowcat prep and fuel up the powdercat crew set out. The enjoyed the record snow under sunny skies, and warm late winter conditions.

Some fun air drops and long turns led to lunch and then some more skiing. Following Dave's emphasis for backcountry awareness and safety, the Powdercats were led through an impromptu practice rescue operation from a medivac helicopter they can call upon in the rare case of an emergency.

By the end of the day, countless perfect runs and a little bit of friendly heckling led to sharing some brews and being thankful for all that nature provided - all in Dave's honor.

The film was shot on a super 8 camera to feel vintage and give it a visual style of its own. It was so cold early in the morning that the primary camera froze up. Luckily, we had the backup super 8 camera that could handle the freezing temperatures and allowed to to shoot this little movie.

Very special thanks to everyone whom made this project possible and Matador records for donating the song we edited the footage to and to everyone at Oniricom for building this page and hosting the movie.

Thanks so much for supporting Dave. We hope you enjoy this short movie filmed with his friends and on the slopes of Dave's old stomping grounds: His beloved backcountry of Steamboat, Colorado.
